Bathroom Remodel, San Francisco

This Mission Districts home's living areas had been carefully remodeled by the Owner. The next step was to remodel the bathroom, which was much too cramped.

By trading space from an adjacent closet and closing off a uselessly tiny lightwell, we were able to create a gracious but tidy space. The detailing is crisp and modern, but the materials and colors speak to the vintage look of the home.

The overall remodel fits perfectly into the house, and yet provides a powerful surprise--the new, operable skylight--which provides ample and opens up a spacious vertical volume unique to the house--an oasis of serene space.
